Troubleshooting & How To Use Gamepad Tester

Work through connection, operating system, browser, and input checks.

Open the tester

If your controller is not appearing, a button is not responding, or you are unsure how to use an online gamepad tester, this guide covers the common checks.

How to use Gamepad Tester

  1. Connect your controller to your computer.
  2. Open the gamepad tester and wait for detection.
  3. Press each button individually.
  4. Move the analog sticks.
  5. Test triggers and the D-pad.
  6. Check the live input shown on screen.

For specialized problems, use the dedicated tests for stick drift, vibration, calibration, or input latency.

Gamepad Tester not detecting controller

Check the connection

For USB, reconnect the controller, try another port, check the cable, and make sure the operating system recognizes the device. For wireless controllers, confirm Bluetooth or the relevant wireless connection is active, pair the controller again, and reconnect if necessary.

Refresh the tester

Connect the controller first, then refresh the tester page. Some browsers need the controller connected before the page can access gamepad information.

Try another browser

If the controller works elsewhere but is not detected by the current browser, try another supported browser. Browser and Gamepad API support can affect detection.

Controller not working

A controller not detected problem does not necessarily mean the controller is broken. Check the chain: Controller → Connection → Operating System → Browser → Gamepad Tester. If the operating system does not recognize it, the browser generally cannot test it either.

Nothing responds

Check the connection and whether the computer detects the controller.

Some buttons do not respond

Press each button individually. If only one or two inputs fail repeatedly, the problem may be isolated to those controls.

Analog stick does not respond

Move the stick through its full range and observe the axis values. If it moves while untouched, investigate possible stick drift.

Vibration does not work

Button and stick input can work even when vibration is unavailable. Check the connection and whether vibration is supported by the browser and controller environment.

Quick controller checklist

  • Controller connected?
  • Computer recognizes it?
  • Browser detects it?
  • Buttons respond?
  • Sticks respond?
  • Triggers respond?
  • Vibration works if supported?

Is Gamepad Tester safe?

A browser based tester should only need access to controller information required for testing. Review the site’s privacy policy and avoid downloading an unknown executable for basic browser input checks.

When should you use a specialized test?

Once the controller is detected, use the appropriate page for stick drift, vibration, polling and latency, or axis inspection. Platform specific compatibility can vary, so compare another browser or device when needed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use a gamepad tester?

Connect the controller, open the tester, wait for detection, then press buttons and move the sticks to see live input.

Why is my gamepad not detected?

Check the connection, operating system recognition, browser compatibility, and whether another application has exclusive access.

Can I test without downloading software?

Yes. A browser based tester can perform basic input checks when the browser and controller support the required functionality.
