PS5 & DualSense guide

How to Test a PS5 Controller and DualSense Online

Connect your controller and check buttons, sticks, triggers, vibration, and available touchpad input directly in your browser.

Open the tester

A PS5 gamepad tester helps you check a new controller, troubleshoot unexpected input, inspect a used DualSense, or confirm that your computer can detect it. Connect your controller, then press buttons and move the controls while watching for live responses.

Quick PS5 controller test

Connect → detect → press → move → test → diagnose.

Connect your DualSense controller

Connect the controller to your computer with USB or a supported Bluetooth connection. Once it is connected, open the tester in your browser. Your DualSense should appear when the browser detects it.

A wired USB connection can be useful for troubleshooting because the controller is connected directly to the computer. For Bluetooth, pair the DualSense with your computer before opening or refreshing the tester.

Test the buttons and D-pad

Press each button on the controller and look for a corresponding response in the tester. A working DualSense tester should provide immediate feedback for supported inputs.

Check both analog sticks

Move the left and right sticks slowly through their full range. Test up and down, left and right, diagonal movement, and the center position. Watching the live values can help identify unusual movement or possible stick drift problems.

How to check for stick drift

  1. Place the controller on a stable surface.
  2. Do not touch either analog stick.
  3. Watch the stick indicators and check that they remain near the center.
  4. Move each stick through its full range.
  5. Release each stick and check that it returns consistently.

If a character or cursor moves without you touching a stick, the controller may be reporting unwanted analog input. For a closer look, use the dedicated stick drift and deadzone tester.

Test the analog triggers

The DualSense uses analog triggers, so do not only press L2 and R2 fully. Slowly squeeze each trigger and watch its input value change. This helps determine whether the trigger responds throughout its range.

Test vibration and touchpad input

You can also try the vibration test. If vibration does not work, that does not automatically mean the controller is defective: browser support, operating system behavior, connection method, and controller capabilities can all affect it.

The DualSense touchpad may provide additional input when the browser exposes it. Interact with the touchpad while watching the tester, keeping in mind that the available information can vary by browser and platform.

What a browser based PS5 tester can check

A gamepad tester gives you a quick way to verify controller input without installing separate testing software. Depending on your browser and setup, it can help you check whether:

The exact inputs available can vary with the operating system, browser, connection method, and controller configuration. Not every DualSense feature is necessarily available to a web application.

Calibration checks

Calibration and input testing are related but not the same. You can observe stick center position, full stick movement, trigger range, consistent analog input, and unusual values when controls are released. If the tester shows unexpected values, further calibration or troubleshooting may be needed.

A browser tester is useful for inspection, but it is not a replacement for manufacturer level firmware or hardware calibration.

When a PS5 controller tester is useful

DualSense not showing up?

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the controller.
  2. For Bluetooth, check that it is paired correctly.
  3. For USB, try another cable or USB port.
  4. Make sure the operating system recognizes the controller.
  5. Close applications that may already be using it.
  6. Refresh the tester after connecting the controller.
  7. Try the other connection method if available.

If the operating system recognizes the controller but your browser does not, the issue may be related to browser or Gamepad API support rather than the physical controller.

Frequently asked questions

Can I test a PS5 controller online?

Yes. Connect a compatible PS5 controller to your computer, open the browser based tester, and check the inputs it displays.

Can I test a DualSense controller?

Yes. You can check buttons, analog sticks, triggers, and other inputs exposed to the browser.

How do I know if my PS5 controller has stick drift?

Leave the analog stick untouched and observe its reported position. Then move it through its full range and release it. Unexpected movement while untouched can indicate possible stick drift.

Can I test DualSense vibration?

You can test vibration where the browser, operating system, connection, and controller expose the necessary functionality.

Can I test the DualSense touchpad?

You can check touchpad input where the browser exposes the relevant controller information.
